The receptionist was rude, she ignored me at the door several times, waking past and not even acknowledging me. When she finally unlocked the door she explained the surgery wasn’t open till 9am. Fair enough but my appointment was at 9am and as the first one of the day I had expected to be seen at 9am not let in at 9am. She asked me to put a mask on, I said no, I didn’t have to now and as I quite rightly pointed out she wasn’t wearing oneI? I said this in a perfectly reasonable manner, as it isn’t law now. She said she was behind a screen so didn’t need one. But I was the other side of the screen, so surely the same should apply? She said it was for the protection of others but there was no-one else there at this time. I said I would put on a mask if she would, she refused re-iterating the screen negated her wearing one. This same conversation went back and forth for several minutes, along with the fact that as you are a private practice you can do what you want, I didn’t understand this as I am an NHS patient of the practice. Also it is concerning that she uses that reason to do what she wants! I finally put a mask on when another patient arrived, out of respect for her not the receptionist. The receptionist then handed me a clipboard and pen to fill in a form, I asked her to sanitise the pen as she’d touched it and she refused saying all the pens had already been sanitised. She couldn’t see the irony in insisting I wear a mask to protect others and yet expected me to be happy to hold a pen she’d been handling. Rather than sanitising the pen she just glared at me from behind her screen and accused me of being awkward. When I finally got to see the hygienist some 15 minutes later I was highly impressed. The stark contrast between hers and the receptionists attitude was incredible. Friendly, polite, professional, helpful and cheerful. I’m very happy with my dentist Nadyn, she’s lovely and overall I’m happy with the service, but this isn’t the first time I’ve noticed the receptionist being stroppy with me and others, she needs to practice a few people skills in my opinion, as ‘front of house’ she dictates people’s first impressions of the practice. I have a feeling my review won’t be published, but perhaps this feedback will help to improve this lady’s attitude.
