After suffering with back pain for most of my 20s, I am so happy I found Mr Mo Akmal. I had many years of misdiagnosis and never really felt my condition was understood. After my first consultation with Mr Akmal I felt like he understood me and I knew I was in safe hands. We went through all of my options and after a year of treatment, decided it was time for a L5/S1 Primary Posterior Lumbar Fusion with Instrumentation. The whole process was really easy and straightforward and I was able to leave the hospital the same day. The recovery period was tough at times, but I can honestly say so worth it. The difference it has made to my life is amazing. I am now 4 months post-op, I feel incredible and am back to normal daily life without back pain. After suffering for so long, I feel like a huge wait has been lifted and that is all thanks to Mr Akmal and his team. All of whom were incredibly professional and kind. I would like to give a special thanks to Mr Akmal and Dr Lok for the reassuring phone calls during my recovery period at home - I'm not sure if they realise just how reassuring they were. If I could put 10 stars, I would. After many years of non surgical treatment, all without any major relief, surgery was now inevitable. As a Canadian, I was looking for the best state of the art spinal units in the world to undergo spinal fusion of my L4-L5. After consulting over 4 specialists, some in New York which is much closer to home, I chose Dr. Akmal and the spinal unit because the personalize treatment, from pre-op to post op was by far, superior to any other centers I had visited. Dr. Akmal is one of the best surgeons which truly helped put me at ease, but on top of that, he and the entire unit treat you like family and it is a true one-stop-shop from tests to surgery to physio all under the same roof. I am now on week 3 recovering from spinal fusion surgery. I was standing and walking 2 hours post surgery, even walked to the office from the hotel 2 days after surgery. Week 3, I no longer have any back or nerve pain and my numbness in my leg is completely gone. A true miracle, as my mother would say! I am forever grateful to Dr. Akmal and the entire team and would highly recommend them to anyone suffering from back pain. Even the best surgeons in New York were anticipating a 3-6 month recovery for me...I feel truly blessed to be able to go home and show my husband and kids that they have their mummy back :-)

I had difficult times with my disc prolapse in my lower back. The pain was getting worse despite pain killers and physiotherapy. I was a bit nervous considering surgical treatment as a definte solution. The consultation with Mr. Mo Akmal was informative and reassuring and helped me to make a decision going ahead for the surgical option. On the day of the procedure, the staff was welcoming and looked experienced and knew exaclty what they were doing. Mr. Mo Akmal spoke to me before and after the procedure. In less than 2hrs, after the porcedure, I was able to stand, walk, and sit down with no pain. I strongly recommend Mr. Mo Akmal for anybody who has a similar condition.

Very good treatment from Mr. Akmal and the staff with amazing results. After the first spinal injection I was sure the treatment won't work but as the team encouraged me to keep going to the second injection it then total disappeared. They were also very helpful with all the documents needed for the insurance cover. Much appreciated!

I should of had this lumbar decompression many years ago with the stabilisation in my spine. Mo Akram and his whole team was absolutely fantastic. I did not tell any friends or family about my op a few hours ago as I know they would of discouraged me from having this op. I came in a cab and am going back in a cab feeling absolutely pain free 100% I have lived in pain for many years after my last op in 2015 .as I really did not want to go through that pain again staying in a hospital for 5 days. I was seen by Mr Akmal for a L4/L5 discectomy. One of the biggest hurdles with any medical treatment is being comfortable and surrendering to the process. Mr Akmal and his team are consummate professionals with a very human bed side manner and give you the reassurance you need. I initially reached out to Mr Akmal via email and within a few hours he responded and an initial consultation was booked. The team is welcoming from front desk through to admin, theatre staff and all support doctors. This is a reflection of Mr Akmal himself. Everyone had plenty of time and no question was too trivial. I never felt rushed in my pre operation appointments when Mr Akmal discussed all options and we jointly agreed on my discectomy. Given my pain level surgery was planned and I was booked within days of my initial consultation. I very quickly came to realise that I was not just a number as in no time everyone knew my name. The day of the procedure I had a full briefing by the theatre staff who kept me updated on the time that I would be taken to theatre, with a pre op visit by Mr Akmal. The patient pods were very comfortable and clean. I walked to theatre and again the staff were very nice and alleviated any anxiety I felt. Mr Akmal was already in theatre. Post op the recovery team were wonderful ensuring that I was comfortable and provided a light refreshment. Mr Akmal came to see me two hours post op and I walked with him - pain free!
