About Miss Sarah Muirhead-Allwood
Miss Sarah Muirhead-Allwood, an internationally renowned consultant orthopaedic surgeon, boasts over 30 years of experience and stands as one of the most seasoned practitioners conducting hip replacement procedures in the UK. She has earned distinction as one of the global pioneers in hip revision surgery and alternative approaches to hip replacement, including the two-incision approach and OCM direct anterior approach.
A member of esteemed professional associations such as the British Orthopaedic Association, British Hip Society, International Hip Society, European Hip Society, Royal Society of Medicine, and Royal College of Surgeons, Miss Muirhead-Allwood received the Royal College of Surgeons Robert Jones Lectureship and medal in 2021 for her significant contributions to hip surgery.
With a substantial body of work, Miss Muirhead-Allwood has authored numerous peer-reviewed papers and book chapters, while also delivering presentations at national and international conferences. Actively engaged in advancing the field, she collaborates with major orthopaedic manufacturers and university departments to develop new techniques and prostheses. Following her tenure at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, where she collaborated with the biomedical engineering department at University College London, she continued her research into hip surgery, working most recently with Professor Jonathan Jeffers at the mechanical engineering department at Imperial College London.

I have been a patient of Miss Muirhead-Allwood for many years due to a calamitous operation in Dubai. She actually saved my leg. I have always found her caring and she explains everything in detail. Her staff are all very pleasant and helpful.

My overall experience was excellent . The explanations of the procedure at the initial consultation were clear and easily understood.The procedure itself was a great success .I left the hospital after 48 hours with one crutch and no pain .I was walking without any support 2 days later . The 2 follow up meetings after 1 and 3 months were thorough and confirmed the success of the procedure .

Sarah had been recommended to me by two close friends who had been patients of hers in the last twenty years. The procedure itself was not at all traumatic, with Sarah visiting on the day of the surgery to allay any fears, and then doing follow up consultations to ensure all was going well. The outcome is all I had hoped for, and I am now well on the road to full recovery; once again with the comfort of being overseen by Sarah at regular intervals. Highly recommended for anyone considering hip replacement surgery.
