About Mr Syed S Ahmed
Mr. Ahmed is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon with a special interest in Hip Surgery. He performs a high volume (>500) of hip replacements annually, as evidenced by UK National Joint Registry (NJR). He is among the highest volume surgeons hip surgeons in the country.
He has a special interest in minimally invasive hip replacements, enhanced recovery and is keen on early return to all normal activities following joint replacement surgery. His NHS practice consists mainly of primary and revision hip replacements and is based at Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust.
He completed his Higher Surgical Training in Trauma & Orthopaedics in Kent, Surrey and Sussex. He then went on to gain international experience in Toronto to further sub specialise in lower limb arthroplasty. Following this, he worked at University College London Hospital gaining significant experience in complex hip and knee replacements, revision hip surgery and robotic hip and knee arthroplasty.

AWARDS:
1. The British Hip Society Travelling Fellowship. He was one of two orthopaedic surgeons to be awarded the prestigious BHS Fellowship in 2019. This gave him the unique opportunity to gain experience at the internationally renowned Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) in New York.
2. Current Concepts in Joint Replacement Scholarship to attend their meeting in Florida, USA – December 2019.
3. European Hip Society Travelling Fellowship Invited to visit specialist orthopaedic units in Italy.
Mr. Ahmed ensures that he uses the latest in hip technology and has a specific interest in enhanced recovery after hip/knee replacement and minimally invasive surgery.

Mr Syed has done a great job replacing my hip and I’d recommend his work to anyone. Maybe just slow down & take a few more moments in aftercare! Very polite just seems like he’s always in a rush .. maybe to get the next hip replaced!!

I suffer from anxiety regarding health matters and would have appreciated more discussion and reassurance about the necessity for the operation and the process at the first two appointments. I requested a further consultation with Mr Ahmed and at that appointment he was excellent in helping to reduce my anxieties and reassuring me about the potential dangers and negative outcomes of the operation. If I had had this experience at the initial consultations it would have avoided my becoming very fearful of having the operation which was very hard to cope with in the months leading up to the surgery. Mr Ahmed is clearly an outstanding surgeon.

Was only there for the operation, cannot comment further until I see him for follow up consultation. No complaints, very clear and precise about the procedure

Very pleasant and explained fully about the operation. I was very nervous about what was going to happen and really surprised by the whole experience. No complaints at all.

Pre Surgery Mr. Ahmed gave a good explanation of the procedure and show me x-rays. I saw him for only a few minutes post op.

Amazing job by Mr Ahmed , I had absolutely no bruising , a neat little scar . Very grateful for his expertise . I would highly recommend him .
